Alaska Children's Trust - "Mush for Kids"
From 2003 until 2010 the Sled Dog Sanctuary volunteered their time and team to help raise money for the Alaska Children's Trust through their yearly event 'Mush for Kids'.
Over the years the event became well known throughout the community with dog sled rides as their biggest attraction. Many mushers came out to help give rides with their teams as the Sanctuary took to the trails with them working our rescues along side. This not only gave the new dogs exposure to large crowds but as they wore their 'adopt me' jackets around the track they also helped spread awareness about other sled dogs in need.
As the dogs worked their way around the track we found that some desired to take a turn once or twice, while dogs like Juno insisted on going around every time no matter how long the day. Her unique bark made her quite well known at this event and when she wasnt barking orders up front it wouldnt be long before someone asked where she was!
Due to our new location being so far away from Fairbanks it is unfortunate that we are no longer able to help with this event any longer but we know our dogs still rest within the minds of the children who delighted in their ride each year and maybe a few more who remember Juno and her unique 'bossy' attitude!
